Local Volunteers
Volunteers are welcomed in all ministry areas. Scheduling is helpful to make sure that all areas are covered throughout the week. Volunteer opportunities include: appliance repairs, clothing distribution, lawn care, teaching a class at the Samaritan House, assessment of potential home repair projects, splitting of firewood, clerical aid, stocking the Food Pantry, furniture ministry, general cleaning, meal preparation, driving, etc.

Local Church Groups
Local congregations often serve at AMOS on weekend projects. Churches and groups can contact AMOS in advance so that a project will be available. The number of volunteers on a team will determine what type of project they will be assigned to. This is a great way for church groups to fellowship and witness to others while serving the community.
AMOS Work Days
AMOS offers several workdays for Carson-Newman students throughout the school year. These typically fall on a Saturday and consist of working at the Ministry Center, Samaritan House, or Home Repair. Students can use these days for community service hours or volunteer opportunities. Carson-Newman University is famous for its community service reputation and students often use these workdays to uphold it.
Operation In As Much
Operation In As Much is an AMOS service day. Individuals and groups from Carson-Newman University and surrounding Knox County areas join together to work on various projects in the Jefferson and Knox County areas.
Samaritan House Hosts
Overnight monitors and weekend staff positions are open to volunteer efforts. The Samaritan House Family Ministries coordinator oversees the Samaritan House and its volunteers.
S.P.O.T.S.
AMOS host collegiate teams year round. Colleges typically send teams during fall and spring break. This is known as S.P.O.T.S (Special Projects Other Than Summer). Teams are hosted in all ministry areas but are responsible for their own housing. These teams must be scheduled in advance.
Student Interns and Bonner Scholars
Appalachian Ministries of the Smokies welcomes help in all ministry areas. Student interns can take on different duties based on their intended area of service. AMOS is also affiliated with the Carson-Newman Bonner Scholars program. University credit can be available based on course requirements and hours. Jefferson City High School also uses AMOS as a host site for Service Learning Classes as well as the statewide Tennessee Achieves Program.
