- Donations are received at our Second Source Outlet Center lower level of the building located at 190 W. Old Andrew Johnson Hwy, Jefferson City, TN. Staff and volunteers place items in crates and load them into a semi-trailer. Semi-trailers are transported to the Ministry Center located at 511 Municipal Drive, Jefferson City, TN, in the industrial park. Items may be dropped off at the Second Source Outlet Center on the lower level donation seven days a week 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. We cannot guarantee the safety of your donation from the elements outside these hours.
- Upon arrival at the Ministry Center, semi-trailers are unloaded and volunteers begin a sorting process. Families receiving food at the Ministry Center receive a clothing voucher to be redeemed for free clothing and shoes at Second Source Outlet Center. This important resource not only helps families in the community, but supports Appalachian Outreach.
- The Second Source Outlet Center opened March 2020 and is located in the upper portion of the building located at 190 W. Andrew Johnson Hwy, Jefferson City, TN. Second Source Thrift Store is a pay by the pound and open to the public. In addition to clothing and shoes, furniture, home goods, kitchen items, bedding and toys are available for purchase. Proceeds from sales support the various ministries of Appalachian Outreach. Hours of operation: Monday - Wednesday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. We accept cash and debit cards.
- The Second Source Thrift Store is a separate non-profit located at 292 W. Old Andrew Johnson Hwy, Jefferson City, TN. and is open to the public. This store was established to serve individuals that would not feel comfortable receiving services from Appalachian Outreach. Although, the store is open to the public an emphasis is placed on the underemployed and working poor. Second Source Thrift Store receives items to sell that in turn provide financial assistance to support the mission of Appalachian Outreach. These needed funds allow Appalachian Outreach to purchase food for the pantry and supports our operating budget. In the past, Second Source Thrift Store raised $750,000 of the $1,000,000 needed to build the new Samaritan House, our homeless shelter for women and children. This would not have been possible without your donations. In addition, Second Source Thrift Store utilized proceeds from the store to purchase our current Ministry Center. This partnership has been a vital part of Appalachian Outreach’s growth over the last ten years as well as enabling us to provide addition services. The Second Source Thrift Store is open Thursday-Saturday 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Currently, we accept cash only at this location.
- The last stop for donations is our recycling programs. Unusable clothing, purses, shoes, belts, hats, and toys that are sent to a company in North Carolina in an effort to keep items out of the landfill. We also recycle metal, cardboard, paper, and plastic. Donated grocery bags are utilized to package food given to families.
